Happy Valentine’s Day weekend Fork + Bibbers! In celebration of love, Sunny and I went on a double date with her BFF Chloe and her mommy Kathy. First we took the girls to a production of “Twinkle Tames A Dragon” which was a super sweet musical based on the book. Props to Kathy for introducing us to the Vital Theatre Company which produces a number of kid-friendly plays, complete with a meet + greet / autograph session with the cast. I can’t wait till Sunny is old enough for Broadway shows and this was a good entree. It was interactive and the perfect amount of time. We will definitely be going back.

Now onto the important part….the grub!

Temperatures were arctic so we jumped in a cab the 6 blocks over to Sugar and Plum

m. Self-described as “An American Bistro. An Artisan Chocolatier. A Magical Macaron Maker. A Whimsical Ice Creamery. A Classic Bake Shop”….I just call it heaven. The restaurant appeals not only to parents/kids but also to dates so Valentine’s Day was particularly crowded and the wait was 25 minutes. Luckily there is a lot of eye candy, literally, in the front of the shoppe which features brightly colored bulk candy and stacks of multi-colored macarons. This distracted the girls as we waited for our table.

The physical space is completely kid friendly – there is a large doorway for strollers, lots of stroller parking, no stairs etc. High chairs, booster seats, crayons, plastic cups with straws and anything else you can imagine is available to make your kiddies comfy. The kids menu includes all the standard fare – sliders, grilled cheese, chicken fingers etc. and the portions are large.

Having lived in France for a few months I consider myself a crepe connoisseur. I ordered the savory smoked chicken and grilled vegetable crepe for my entree. The filling was nice but the crepe itself was too thick and a little dry. Kathy stuck with a burger and fries which was a better bet. Next time (and there WILL be a next time) I’ll try something else. The truth is, you aren’t going to Sugar and Plumm for the entrees…..it’s all about the dessert and boy do they deliver.

Sunny got a scoop of chocolate ice cream that was smooth, rich and delicious – definitely a cut above the usual Baskin Robbins fare. Chloe went for a very sophisticated option and chose a pretty pink macaron. Tres chic! Kathy and I opted for a creme brulee cookie which was unreal. I fantasized about it last night!

Oh how I long to give Sugar and Plumm a perfect sippy cup review….but alas I can’t. Why? There is no changing table in the men’s bathroom. C’mon restaurants. What’s a daddy to do?

Aside from that, Sugar and Plumm is Fork + Bib approved. We will be back soon!

creme brulee doughnut + crayons = perfection!

Bonus Points:

•  A couple blocks away from The Museum of Natural History = KID HEAVEN
•  Fun candy shop in the front makes the time waiting for a table go by a little faster

Insider Tips:

•  They get busy – very busy so be prepared for a wait. They only take reservations from Monday-Friday
•  While the point of Fork + Bib is to encourage families to go OUT to eat, I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you that Sugar and Plumm delivers…everything.
