Sunny and I had an awesome time at the annual NYC Kids Food Festival today at Bryant Park! The festival featured lots of snack booths plus the standard kid-friendly activities – balloon animals, face-painting and musical performances. It was super crowded and quite hectic but all the healthy samples made some of the lines more palatable.
The highlight? A cooking class with Chef Holzman, founder of the super popular restaurant The Meatball Shop. We purchased tickets ahead of time online ($25 for two adults and one child) and there were many classes to choose from. I’m a major fan of the Meatball Shop so I couldn’t wait to expose Sunny. Naturally Sunny elected to dress up like Supergirl/Wonder Woman for this unique event. No surprises there.
About 50 of us gathered around small tables and waited for instructions. We started off with a veggie pasta salad with pesto which we learned how to make entirely in a giant zip lock bag. Sunny had a lot of fun shaking all the ingredients up together. Then came the meatballs – these were already prepared but we had fun making them into little meatball sandwiches.
Chef Holzman walked around the said hi to all the kids/parents. We each left with a Meatball Shop cookbook in hand along with a big can of Zoe For Kids Extra Virgin Organic Olive Oil, which was used in the pesto.
Fork + Bib will do an official review of one of the 6 Meatball Shop locations very soon….stay tuned! In the meantime you can check them out here: http://www.themeatballshop.com/. They feature some of their most popular meatball recipes like the one below on the site!
Insider Tip: There is lots of swag so bring an extra tote bag to carry everything!
Bonus Points: Bryant Park has one of NYC’s few carousel’s. It’s $3 a pop but lots of fun for the kiddos!
